Quick answer

  • For Zambian artists on a budget, Interfine Music costs $12 a year (start from $2) and delivers to Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, TikTok, YouTube Music and 200+ platforms.
  • Global options cost more per year: DistroKid $24.99, TuneCore from $24.99, Amuse from $23.99, Ditto from $19. ONErpm is free but takes a share.
  • Interfine pays out by bank transfer, Payoneer or PayPal ($50 minimum) and requests a YouTube Official Artist Channel for a one-time USD 15.
  • Distribution covers streaming money. For performing, mechanical and sync royalties in Zambia, songwriters should also join ZAMCOPS.

From Zed hip hop and Afro-pop to kalindula and gospel, Zambian music has a growing audience at home and abroad. To reach fans on Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay and YouTube Music, you need a distributor. This guide compares the main options for artists in Zambia in 2026 on price, payouts and extras like the YouTube Official Artist Channel.

What to look for in a distributor in Zambia

  • Yearly cost in dollars. A kwacha budget goes further when the plan is cheap and you can pay in small amounts.
  • African stores. Boomplay matters across Africa. Check that it’s included, not just Spotify and Apple Music.
  • How you get paid. Check which payout methods work from Zambia (bank, Payoneer, PayPal) and the minimum withdrawal.
  • YouTube. Can the distributor get you an Official Artist Channel, and at what cost?
  • Support you can reach. Can you message a real person on WhatsApp when a release needs fixing?

Why Interfine Music suits Zambian artists

Interfine Music is an Africa-first distributor based in Nairobi. It costs $12 a year, and you can start from $2 and pay the rest in instalments by card or M-Pesa. Your songs go to Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, TikTok, YouTube Music and 200+ platforms. Releases are reviewed within 72 hours to one week.

You can withdraw by bank transfer, Payoneer or PayPal once you reach $50. If your music already has a Topic channel on YouTube, Interfine can request your Official Artist Channel for a one-time USD 15, even if you use another distributor.

Royalties in Zambia: distribution vs ZAMCOPS

Your distributor collects money from streams and downloads. It doesn’t collect royalties for radio, TV, live shows or music played in public places. In Zambia, songwriters and publishers collect those through the Zambia Music Copyright Protection Society (ZAMCOPS). ZAMCOPS collects and distributes royalties for three rights: performing rights, mechanical rights and synchronisation rights. It is registered with the Registrar of Companies and supervised by the Registrar of Copyright in the Ministry of Commerce, under the Copyright and Performance Rights Act of 1994.

Membership is open to composers and authors of music whose works are fixed in a tangible form, and to music publishers. ZAMCOPS offers separate application forms for individual artists, groups and bands, and publishers on its membership page. It is headquartered in Lusaka, with offices in Livingstone and Kitwe. In March 2026, ZAMCOPS General Manager Mirrias Siamutondo urged artists to register their music so they are “fairly compensated for their work”.

How to release your song from Zambia in 5 steps

  1. Finish your master, cover art and song credits.
  2. Create your Interfine account and pay $12 a year (or start from $2).
  3. Upload your audio, cover and credits (new to codes? read what is an ISRC?).
  4. Choose a release date at least 7 days ahead so you can pitch to Spotify playlists.
  5. After release, request your YouTube OAC, register the song with ZAMCOPS and promote on TikTok.

One thing to keep in mind: since 1 April 2024, a track needs at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months on Spotify to earn recorded royalties. Read our guide to the Spotify 1,000 streams rule.
