Music Release Checklist

A 12-step music release checklist for independent artists: audio, artwork, metadata, credits, release date, pitching and promotion. Avoid store rejections.

Last updated October 2026 · By the Interfine Music team

Use this 12-step checklist before you upload a single, EP or album. It covers the files, information and timing that stores check, so your release is approved first time and goes live on the date you planned.

The checklist

  • Final WAV master, artwork, credits, release date, pitch, promo plan.
  • Start at least 3 weeks before your release date.
  • Support: WhatsApp +254 791 393 533, email and tickets.

Audio

  1. Export a final WAV master (16-bit/44.1 kHz or higher). No MP3s.
  2. Check the start and end: no silence longer than a couple of seconds, no clipping, no unfinished fades.
  3. Clear every sample or beat licence. Stores and YouTube Content ID can flag uncleared material.

Artwork

  1. 3000×3000 px, square, JPG or PNG, in RGB colour.
  2. No URLs, social handles, prices, store logos or “new” stickers on the cover.
  3. Text on the cover matches your artist name and release title.

Metadata and credits

  1. Use the exact same artist name on every release so streams go to the right profile.
  2. Credit songwriters, producers and featured artists correctly. This is how royalties and splits are paid.
  3. Mark explicit lyrics as explicit, and pick the right genre and language.

Timing and promotion

  1. Pick a release date 2–3 weeks out and submit early. See how long distribution takes.
  2. Pitch to editors on Spotify for Artists at least 7 days before release, and ask Interfine about Boomplay and Audiomack pitching.
  3. Plan your content: a TikTok or Shorts clip, a visualiser for YouTube, and posts for release week. Get your YouTube Official Artist Channel if you don’t have one.
