Afrobeats, Highlife, Hiplife, Asakaa drill and gospel from Ghana are heard all over the world. To get your songs on Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, TikTok and YouTube Music, you need a distributor. This guide compares the main options for Ghanaian artists in 2026 and explains where GHAMRO fits in.
Quick answer
- Interfine Music costs $12 a year (or start from $2) and delivers to Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, TikTok, YouTube Music and 200+ platforms.
- Global options cost more per year: DistroKid $24.99, TuneCore from $24.99, Amuse from $23.99, Ditto from $19.
- Interfine pays out by bank transfer, Payoneer or PayPal ($50 minimum) and requests a YouTube Official Artist Channel for a one-time USD 15.
- For radio, TV and public performance royalties in Ghana, also register your works with GHAMRO.
What to look for in a distributor in Ghana
- Low yearly cost. A cheap plan you can start in small amounts makes it easier to release often.
- Boomplay and TikTok included. Both matter for reaching fans across West Africa, so check they are on the store list.
- Payouts that reach you. Check which methods work in Ghana (bank transfer, Payoneer or PayPal) and what the payout minimum is.
- YouTube Official Artist Channel. Many Ghanaian artists grow on YouTube first. Ask what an OAC costs and who can get one.
- Real support. A WhatsApp number in Africa helps when a release is stuck.

Royalties in Ghana: your distributor vs GHAMRO
Your distributor collects money from streams and downloads. Royalties from radio, TV, live shows and businesses that play music are a separate income stream. In Ghana these are handled by the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO). Its stated mandate is “to license music users, collect, and distribute music royalties to music right holders”, for rights in musical works and sound recordings. GHAMRO says it is regulated under the Copyright Regulations (L.I. 1962 and L.I. 2469) through the Copyright Office, under the Copyright Act, 2005 (Act 690).
GHAMRO’s first royalty distribution of 2026 began on 27 July 2026 and totalled GH¢1,433,571.43, covering background music, digital mechanical, digital performance and live performance royalties, according to Citi Newsroom. In October 2026 GHAMRO named 16 radio and TV stations as compliant with royalty payments, out of more than 700 broadcasters in Ghana (Pulse Ghana). The same Citi report noted that questions over GHAMRO’s operating licence were still unresolved, so check the Copyright Office’s current position before you pay any fees.
How to join GHAMRO

- Apply through the online membership portal (app.ghamroonline.org/register) with accurate identity, work and rights ownership information.
- List every song with all writers and their splits, plus the ISRC from your distributor (new to codes? read what is an ISRC?).
- Keep your membership details safe and add each new release to your catalogue.
Fees and documents can change, so follow GHAMRO’s own instructions if they differ from this list.
How to release your song from Ghana in 5 steps
- Finish your master, cover art and song credits.
- Create your Interfine account and pay $12 a year (or start from $2).
- Upload your audio, cover and credits, using exactly the same artist name you use on YouTube and social media.
- Pick a release date at least 7 days ahead so you can pitch to Spotify playlists.
- After release, register the song with GHAMRO, request your YouTube OAC and promote on TikTok.
Since 1 April 2024, a track needs at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months on Spotify to earn recorded royalties. See our guide to the Spotify 1,000 streams rule.
