Quick answer

  • For Tanzanian artists on a budget, Interfine Music costs $12 a year (start from $2) and delivers to Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, TikTok, YouTube Music and 200+ platforms.
  • Global options cost more per year: DistroKid $24.99, TuneCore from $24.99, Amuse from $23.99, Ditto from $19. ONErpm is free but keeps a share of some income.
  • Interfine pays out by bank transfer, Payoneer or PayPal ($50 minimum) and requests a YouTube Official Artist Channel for a one-time USD 15.
  • A distributor collects streaming money. For radio, TV and public-play royalties in Tanzania, also register your works with COSOTA.

Bongo Flava, Singeli, Amapiano and gospel from Tanzania now reach fans far beyond Dar es Salaam. To get your songs on Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay and YouTube Music, you need a distributor. This guide compares the main options for Tanzanian artists in 2026 on price, payouts and extras like the YouTube Official Artist Channel, and explains where COSOTA fits in.

What to look for in a distributor in Tanzania

  • Yearly cost in dollars. A shilling budget goes further when the plan is cheap and you can pay in small amounts.
  • Boomplay included. Boomplay is big in East Africa. Make sure it’s on the store list, not just Spotify and Apple Music.
  • How you get paid. Check which payout methods work for you and the minimum you must earn before you can withdraw.
  • YouTube. Can the distributor get you an Official Artist Channel, and what does it cost?
  • Support you can reach. A WhatsApp number in East Africa helps when a release is stuck.

Royalties in Tanzania: distribution vs COSOTA

Your distributor collects money from streams and downloads. It doesn’t collect royalties when your song plays on radio, TV, in hotels, bars or other public places. In Tanzania, that is handled by the Copyright Society of Tanzania (COSOTA), which is established under section 46 of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act No. 7 of 1999.

COSOTA is also expanding where it collects. In January 2025 it signed an agreement with the Tanzania Airports Authority so artists earn royalties for music played in airports, with 80% of that music to come from local artists, according to the Daily News. In September 2026 the Daily News reported that about TSh 2 billion collected through the copyright levy system would be distributed to rights holders in November. To share in these payments, register yourself and your songs with COSOTA.

How to release your song from Tanzania in 5 steps

  1. Finish your master, cover art and song credits (writers, producer, featured artists).
  2. Create your Interfine account and pay $12 a year (or start from $2).
  3. Upload your audio, cover and credits. New to codes? Read what is an ISRC?
  4. Pick a release date at least 7 days ahead so you can pitch to Spotify playlists.
  5. After release, request your YouTube OAC, push the song on TikTok, and register the work with COSOTA.

Keep one Spotify rule in mind: since 1 April 2024, a track needs at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months to earn recorded royalties. Read our guide to the Spotify 1,000 streams rule, and see how to upload music to Boomplay for East Africa’s biggest local store.
