Boomplay is one of the most important streaming apps in Africa, especially in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania. But there’s no “upload” button for artists. Boomplay only accepts music delivered by approved distributors, so the way to get your song on Boomplay is to release it through a distributor like Interfine Music.
Quick answer
- Boomplay does not accept uploads directly from independent artists.
- You release through a distributor, which delivers your song to Boomplay and other stores.
- You need a WAV master, 3000×3000 px cover art and correct credits.
- On Interfine, review takes 72 hours to a week, then stores need extra time to go live.
Why you can’t upload straight to Boomplay
Like Spotify and Apple Music, Boomplay receives music from distributors and labels in a standard digital format, together with the information it needs to pay royalties: artist names, songwriters, ISRC codes and release dates. That keeps catalogues clean and makes sure the right person is paid. As an independent artist, your distributor does this part for you.
Step 1: Get your files ready
- Audio: a final WAV master (16-bit/44.1 kHz or higher). Avoid MP3s.
- Cover art: 3000×3000 pixels, square, JPG or PNG in RGB colour. No phone numbers, social handles, prices or store logos on the cover.
- Details: your exact artist name, song title, featured artists, songwriters, producers, genre and language.
- Rights: licences for any beats or samples you used.
Our music release checklist covers every item in more detail.
Step 2: Create a distributor account
Sign up on Interfine Music and pay the $12 yearly plan by M-Pesa or card.
Step 3: Upload your release and choose your stores
Add your audio, artwork and details, then choose where the release should go. Boomplay is included alongside Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, YouTube Music, TikTok and the rest of our distribution network.
Step 4: Pick a release date at least 2–3 weeks away
Interfine reviews releases within 72 hours to a week. After approval, each store processes the release on its own schedule. Planning two to three weeks ahead gives you time to fix anything and to promote the song before it drops. See how long music distribution takes.
Step 5: Set up your Boomplay artist profile
Once your music is live, check that it appears under the right artist profile. Use the exact same artist name on every release so your songs don’t end up split across several profiles. If something looks wrong, contact Interfine support on WhatsApp and we’ll raise it with the store.
Tips to grow on Boomplay
- Share your Boomplay link in your bio and stories on release day.
- Ask fans to follow you on Boomplay so they’re notified of new music.
- Release regularly. Consistent releases keep your profile active.
- Ask Interfine about editorial pitching opportunities for your release.
